552733209615687640 ORIGINAL 1870s WESTERN LAWMAN / SHERIFF WITH STAR BADGE TINTYPE PHOTOGRAPH

Very Rare and original, 1870's, Tintype Photograph of what appears to be a group of Western Lawmen including a central figure wearing the star shaped badge of a Sheriff or Marshal. This outstanding Tintype Photograph measures approx. 2 1/2” by 3 3/8” (1/6 Plate size). This striking Image depicts a group of five, very well dressed men - three seated and two standing behind. Each man's hat is placed on the floor in the foreground. The figure at the center of the front row wears a star shaped badge on his vest and all five men wear what appear to be identical Ribbon Badges of some type. While the Image is not identified in any way, these certainly appear to be Western Lawmen - it has even been suggested to us that Wyatt Earp and his brothers are among the men pictured. We can not and will not identify any of the men pictured and mention this identification in passing only. It is obvious to us that the men pictured are gathered for some specific purpose (hence the identical ribbon badges) and that without a doubt the central figure is a Western Lawman (given the form of the badge he wears). Any further information about the men would be GREATLY appreciated and will be added to this listing once received. This rare, original and very attractive, 1870's Tintype Photograph is in very good condition. The Photograph is clean and crisp and well preserved exhibiting sharp focus, strong contrast and rich, warm tonality. The Image doses have some unobtrusive, shallow horizontal creases but exhibit no surface crazing or flaking. The surface is sound and stable and the Image displays MUCH better than as seen in the scans below. A very rare and likely important, 1870's Tintype Photograph of a group of Western Lawmen and a fantastic addition to any Native American Photograph collection!! Overseasshippping is extra and cost will be quoted at bidders request. Massachusetts residents must add 5% sales tax. Important Notes about Shipping Charges: The amount quoted for Shipping & Handling is calculated by eBay and is equal to the EXACT amount charged by the Post Office plus a $1.00 "packing fee" - the $1.00 fee is our only compensation for the virgin packing materials we use on all of our professionally packaged boxes as well as our cost for the salaried help that does most of our packing - as I am sure you can see, we make NO profit on the Shipping charges and, in fact, our costs are usually greater than the $1.00 fee.
